We all celebrate success and there are commonalities in the way we do it. From formal prize award evenings to a classroom display we are doing it almost constantly.
Are we stopping enough to think about why we are doing it though? Or do we just do it because that's what we're use to? If it's the latter then great, that means it's probably embedded within the culture of the school and your own working practices. But if we're going to develop that further, we need to ask the why.
Below is a list of reasons to celebrate success. This is drawn from a wide variety of places and purposely takes the majority from outside an educational context. But it's good to think why we're doing and which are the most important to us.
1. It changes your physiology and strengthens your psychology. It feels good!
2. Celebrating with colleagues strengthens your network. It builds trust and strengthens relationships
3. It positions you (correctly) as a winner and attracts more success
4. To learn and adapt
5. Develop a mindset of success
6. Motivation. It allows for recognition and reward of key players
7. It reminds you of the goal you set and why it was important
8. It focuses your team on the positives
9. A chance to reflect and recharge
10. Inspires others
11. Builds confidence
12. It reminds you that a good, focused goal setting process works
13. It reminds your team that they work for a winning organisation
14. Forces people to focus on the positives rather than the negatives
